ktravula – a travelogue!

Dear Friends of Buchi Emecheta,

My mother’s death in January this year inspired many feelings in me.  One was the desire to ensure that her stories remained in print and available to a global readership; another, that her name and legacy be associated with social works which reflected the values she lived by.

In the nine months since her passing, two companies have been formed – Omenala Press, to publish and relaunch my mother’s works in print and E-editions; and The Buchi Emecheta Foundation – a charitable organisation promoting literary and educational projects in the UK and in Africa – with an emphasis on black women’s writing and the nurturing of female creative talent.

The official launch of both the Publishing Company and the Buchi Emecheta Foundation will take place at the Brunei Gallery in central London on February the 3rd 2018.

This anniversary event will also be a celebration of my mother’s life and work.  In her thirty-year career as novelist and story-teller she touched the lives of many people and continues to inspire by the example she set as an immigrant, single mother of five children who rose to become an international literary figure.

But other less public sides of my mother’s life will also be showcased and celebrated.

The event will include a curated installation of The Life and Times of Buchi Emecheta. There will be discussions, dramas, music and dancing and of course Nigerian food.  Also expect a colourful cultural tribute from members of the Ibusa community in London…
