There are two plans, each of them going to different directions, with different planning processes, and a different destination. One of the good thing about being in the midwest is the ease of accessing much of everywhere else in the country. In this case, the ktravula radar has picked up signals all around and has developed a very familiar restless feet. This time though, it could be more fun, and who knows, more challenging than the last ones.
Without further ado, here is plan A: St. Louis to Arizona (site of the Grand Canyon, and then later to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and everywhere else.) 23 and a half hours by road. Oooh.
The other option, of course, goes in the other direction, eastwards. For me it’s a less attractive option perhaps because I’ve been there more than once before. However, in this case, I am a minority. It would depend on the cooperation of fellow travellers to select a right site to go. In any case, here’s the other plan, 16 hours 32 minutes:
The “when” is uncertain, as is the “how”, “why” and “with whom”. The only thing certain is the desire, and an otherwise useless longing for new spaces :).

Arizona! When are we going?

Why anybody would choose to go to Arziona of their own free will -especially if going to NYC is the alternative – is something I will never understand. ๐ ๐

NYC, been there, done that. But Arizona still needs to be discovered. ๐

The question is, though, is there anything worth discovering there? ๐

Aside from the amazing view of the Grand Canyon, and the very many things to see before one gets there, I agree that it might not be much. But that’s why California and the other places are also on the cards. In any case, an adventure is still an adventure :).

Ah, California, been there, done that. ๐ But maybe we could visit your cousin. Is he still there?

I see on your map that you will be passing through Oklahoma. That’s a really hardcore place to visit. ๐ Bring a couple of sandwiches with you because the food in Oklahoma is uneatable. I still shudder when I think about it. And look out for the coyotes. ๐ ๐

Actually, I’m still customizing the map. If you know any other fun places to pass through along the way, you may suggest them. If we’d be going to Arizona in the end, the fun may actually be in the journey and not the destination. I mean, how fun can a desert be? ๐

You’re invited :). I hope you like to eat pasta, noodles, oats, and that your eating and sleeping schedule are as erratic as mine.

I like pasta but Italian pasta only (so, I’ll cook myself) and I like oats but German oats only (so, I’ll bring them along). Yeah, please keep me updated about your travel plans and, if possible, I’ll join you. ๐

I haven’t travelled into that direction. I only got as far as Oklahoma and realized that soon I’ll join my howling to that of the coyotes. This country is only inhabitable on its two coasts, in my opinion. And the East Coast a lot more than the West Coast. The reast is just a huge empty stretch of religious fanaticism, fat horribly dressed people, and total lack of culture. Oh, and disgusting food, of course. And anti-immigrant sentiments. I think Arziona should be massively boycotted for its recent racist anti-immigration policies.
Rhode Island, though, is beautiful. And baltimore is unique. And Philly is a dream come true. Ithaca, New York is a hippy paradise.
I’ll be shutting up now and letting you plan your journey in peace.
For now.

Rhode Island also sounds nice. ๐ How long would it take to get to Mexico from your place? That might be an interesting destination as well and I got a friend in Mexico city who urges me to visit him since ages. ๐

Ah, Mexico sounds nice, as long as the border guys don’t prevent me from coming back in, thinking that I’m one of the illegal immigrants. On the other hand, the gang wars at the border of Mexico and the US has made that place a very bad place to be at this time, especially by road.

haha.
Well let me confess, my heart wants to go back to the East Coast, to Boston, to New York (to see it properly), to Rhode Island (again), to Philadelphia, to Connecticut etc. But my head wants to go to the West Coast – like Lewis and Clark – in order to see what lay there. Fortunately, I am not the only one involved in the planning. If their votes trump mine, we may end up going East instead of West.
One thing is sure though, I do want to see the West Coast even if I have to go it alone at some other time.

Meanwhile, the fact that those places are filled with “horribly dressed people and total lack of culture and disgusting food” could end up being the least discouraging property of the place :). The best way to discourage me would have been to say that it’s an extraordinarily amazing place, like New York. I have a feeling that I might be disappointed with it in the end :). Too large and too hyped a city. ๐

I’m not a huge fan of NYC, actually. Wouldn’t have wanted to live there. It’s fun to visit but to stay there permanently, never. But of course in NYC you will never be bored, that’s its one redeeming quality. ๐
There is so much on the East Coast, though, besides New York.

Of course, it will be lots of fun to read you blogging about Arizona and Oklahoma.
Oklahoma is fun to visit right after you have read Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath. Things have not changed much there since then.
